When should I place the word "of" after a noun that modifies another noun?

I agree with Cecelia. I thought of other examples such as "depths of depression," Heart of Darkness" and "Cloth of gold." Whatever came to mind was some kind of stock phrase. I think it would be best to avoid that construction unless you are deliberately using stock phrases.
