Cheryl isn't very famous in the USA, plus her Geordie accent might be difficult for a lot of Americans to understand, so it would make sense for them to look for bigger musical talents like Katy and Rihanna. Plus Cheryl's conviction for actual bodily harm could be problematic. That might be the real reason she doesn't get the job.
